Continuous Loads

Chapter 2 - Wiring and Protection · Article / reference: 100; 210.19(A); 215.2; 210.20(A)

Key Requirements

  • A continuous load is a load where the maximum current is expected to continue for 3 hours or more.
  • Branch-circuit conductor and overcurrent-device sizing shall account for continuous load at 125% where the applicable rule requires it.
  • Feeder sizing likewise requires the applicable noncontinuous load plus 125% of continuous load.

  • Listed assemblies rated for 100% operation can have specific provisions.
