Arc-Flash / Equipment Marking Reminder

General Field Reference · Article / reference: 110.16

Key Requirements

  • Electrical equipment identified by 110.16 shall be field or factory marked to warn qualified persons of potential electric arc-flash hazards.
  • The marking shall be located so it is clearly visible before examination, adjustment, servicing, or maintenance of energized equipment.
  • Service equipment and certain other equipment have additional marking requirements in the applicable edition.

Exceptions / Watch Items

  • The NEC warning-marking rule is not a substitute for an NFPA 70E arc-flash risk assessment or label program.
