Separately Derived Systems
Article 250 - Grounding / Bonding · Article / reference: 250.30
Key Requirements
Separately derived alternating-current systems shall be grounded and bonded in accordance with 250.30 where required.
The system bonding jumper, grounding electrode conductor, and connection point shall follow the applicable SDS rules.
The derived neutral is not treated as a service neutral merely because the transformer is upstream.
Exceptions / Watch Items
Some systems are not separately derived because of a direct electrical connection to another source grounded conductor.
Common Field Gotchas
Confirm whether the source is actually separately derived before applying transformer bonding habits.
